ANA HOLDINGS' "ANA Future Frontier Fund"
Invests in OptQC Corp., a Developer of Optical Quantum
Computers
TOKYO, August 25, 2026 ANA HOLDINGS INC. (ANA HD), through its corporate venture capital fund, "ANA Future Frontier Fund L.P.," today announced its investment in OptQC Corp. (OptQC), a developer of optical quantum computers.
In recent years, as AI has evolved rapidly and digital transformation (DX) has accelerated, the demand for information processing has increased dramatically; at the same time, the limitations of conventional computers in terms of processing power and energy efficiency have become a major challenge. As global expectations for quantum computers as the next-generation computing infrastructure continue to rise, optical quantum computing is attracting attention as a method well-suited for practical application, thanks to its strengths in highly scalable qubits, operation at room temperature, and the utilization of existing optical communication technologies. Building on the University of Tokyo's expertise in optical quantum informatics research, OptQC aims to accelerate the practical application of quantum computers through the development of optical quantum computer hardware and the operation of HIQALI, an ecosystem for industrial applications.
OptQC's core technology is a cluster state generation technique based on the time-domain multiplexing (TDM) method, which enables large-scale quantum information processing using a small number of optical components. In July 2026, OptQC began operation of its first prototype, MoQuren, at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), marking the full-scale launch of its efforts toward the commercialization of optical quantum computers in Japan. Furthermore, OptQC is actively working to expand the ecosystem through collaboration with industry partners, as evidenced by its announcement in August 2026 of a strategic capital and business alliance with NTT.
ANAHD decided to make this investment in OptQC, recognizing its outstanding research team in the field of optical quantum computing—which originated in Professor Furusawa's laboratory at the University of Tokyo—its competitive advantage in low-cost, scalable hardware leveraging proprietary technologies and optical communication infrastructure, and its proactive efforts to build an ecosystem centered on industry collaboration.
Moving forward, ANAHD will continue to create value through extensive collaboration with OptQC to solve operational challenges, improve profitability, and drive further developments, primarily centered on our aviation business.
