ANA Fosters Connections at Expo 2025 in Osaka
From special liveries to student outreach,
ANA is bringing together people and ideas at Expo 2025
Expo 2025 officially launched this month in Osaka, Kansai, Japan, bringing together countries from around the world under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Running through October 13, the event showcases innovations aimed at improving everyday life and ANA Group is playing a key role through a range of initiatives and activities.

ANA Group operates at all three major airports in the Kansai region: Osaka Itami Airport, Kobe Airport and Kansai International Airport (Peach Aviation hub). The airline offers flights connecting Japan and Asia, serving as a key gateway to the Expo.
To learn more about ANA’s involvement, we spoke with Mami Sumiyoshi from ANA’s Corporate Planning Department. Sumiyoshi joined ANA in 2007 as a cabin attendant and has since contributed to several projects as a staff advisor, including the design of the A380 FLYING HONU galley.
World expositions are known for spotlighting cutting-edge technologies and fostering international collaboration. Expo 2025 is no exception, with more than 158 countries and regions, as well as nine international organizations, participating in building global connections and community.
“The pavilions are stunning, each one showcases unique architecture that reflects its home country,” said Sumiyoshi. “I also recommend checking out the Grand Ring and the show, A Spectacular Show of Water and Air ‘Under the Midnight Rainbow’”.

The Grand Ring, a large wooden structure spanning much of the Expo site, blends modern engineering with traditional Japanese architectural techniques. Visitors can also spot artwork featuring MYAKU-MYAKU, the official Expo 2025 character, throughout the venue. As a Silver Partner of Advanced Air Mobility in the Future Society Showcase, ANA Group is planning demonstration flights of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, developed in partnership with Joby Aviation.
EXPO2025 ANA JET Takes Flight

To build momentum ahead of the Expo, ANA launched the EXPO2025 ANA JET in December 2024. The aircraft, a B737, features a vibrant livery combining ANA’s signature blue with the official Expo colors.
“The B737 is a relatively small aircraft, which allows it to reach regional airports and help raise awareness of the Expo in communities across Japan,” said Sumiyoshi.
In its first five days of service, the jet visited more than 17 domestic airports, connecting cities nationwide and spreading recognition for the Expo.
“From design to logistics, finalizing the look for the EXPO2025 ANA JET was no easy task,” said Sumiyoshi. “We wanted a design that would stand out and be instantly recognizable, while remaining visually appealing. That vision ultimately led us to our final concept.”

Beyond its eye-catching exterior, the aircraft features exclusive in-flight service items created in collaboration with Cross Company, an organization that promotes social inclusion for people with disabilities (website in Japanese).
“By working closely with colleagues across ANA and our partner organizations, we’re continuing to plan more promotional events featuring the special jet,” said Sumiyoshi. “Through our support of Expo 2025, we hope to connect the world and inspire a brighter future.”
From April 19-20, the EXPO2025 ANA JET operated a special charter flight between Noto and Osaka (Kansai), welcoming students and their families from a local special needs school to experience the Expo firsthand.
Looking Ahead

“Expo 2025 is such a large-scale initiative—it’s unlike anything I’ve ever worked on,” said Sumiyoshi. “It’s been a valuable opportunity to collaborate across many departments, including public relations, Osaka Airport, the city office and our marketing communication teams.”
For Sumiyoshi and her team, the Expo represents more than just a global event—it’s a glimpse into the future of air travel and a chance for ANA Group to demonstrate its commitment to connecting people around the world.
“I hope everyone gets a chance to visit Expo 2025 and catch a glimpse of what’s ahead,” she added. “We still have some surprises planned for the EXPO2025 ANA JET, so stay tuned!”
